Le coteau est exposé au sud-est entre 260 et 330 m, entre Ribeauvillé et Hunawihr, sur un sol marno-calcaire reposant sur des calcaires du Muschelkalk en partie dolomitisés. Le Clos Sainte Hune de Trimbach se trouve au milieu du grand cru.
