A charter of 783 records the Sigoltesberg, today's Mambourg, as jointly owned by local lords and monasteries. The slope rises from 210 to 350 m above Sigolsheim, facing south and stretching about a kilometre eastward, on marl-limestone soils over clay marl and limestone conglomerates. It joined the grands crus in 1992.
