In 1292 the Strasbourg convent of Sainte-Agnès owned vines on the lieu-dit Am Frankenstein. The grand cru covers four separate slopes between 220 and 330 m just west of Dambach-la-Ville, all on light, stony granite soils. It joined the grands crus in 1992.
