The Kirchberg rises just above and north of Ribeauvillé between 270 and 350 m, on gentle south-south-west slopes. The lower part lies on Triassic dolomitic marl and Muschelkalk dolomite, the upper part on gypsum-bearing sandy marl. It was one of the 24 lieux-dits added to the grands crus in 1983.
