The estate dates from 1525, when Jean de Pontac married Jeanne de Bellon, whose dowry included part of the Haut-Brion land. Samuel Pepys noted drinking 'Ho Bryen' in a London tavern in 1663. It was the only Graves wine included in the 1855 classification of red wines.
