The château began as a hunting lodge of the Coutanceau family, and the wine was classified in 1855 under the name Coutenceau. The négociant Bruno Devès built the cellars and named it Bellegrave in the 19th century. The banker Marcel Alibert gave it the name Belgrave after buying it in 1898.
