The estate comes from the break-up of the Beychevelle lands after the death of the Duke of Épernon in 1661; Jean-Baptiste Braneyre bought part of them in 1680. The Duluc family built the present château in 1824. A 1934 bottle of Branaire-Ducru is central to Roald Dahl's short story 'Taste'.
