Named after Baron Hector de Branne, who once owned the future Mouton

Previously called Château Gorce, the estate was bought in 1833 by Baron Hector de Branne, who renamed it after himself. The sale of his Brane-Mouton estate in Pauillac helped finance the purchase. The Lurton family acquired Brane-Cantenac in 1922.
