The site was once a fortified castle called La Mothe, and the Lestonnac family turned it towards wine in the 16th century. By the early 18th century the estate covered 265 ha, a layout close to the modern one. It also makes Pavillon Blanc, a white wine that cannot use the Margaux appellation.
