The property was first known as Domaine Rochet and took its present name after its owner married Étienne de Lafon. The Tesseron family bought it in 1959, when only 15 ha of vines remained, and rebuilt the château entirely. It lies on the southern edge of Saint-Estèphe, opposite Lafite.
