The German-born merchant Frederic Focke took over the estate in 1815, and it headed the list of premiers crus in 1855. Daniel Iffla, known as Osiris, bought it in 1876 and left it to the French state on his death in 1907, on condition that it house a school of viticulture, which opened in 1911.
