The name combines the hamlet of Milon and Sieur Duhart, said to have been a privateer who lived in Pauillac. The wine took the name Duhart-Milon from 1868. The Lafite branch of the Rothschild family bought it in 1962 and built its vat house and cellars in Pauillac town.
