Grosse Lage

Named after a sundial standing among the vines

Appellation: Mosel
Grapes: Riesling
Vineyard: 47 ha

The Sonnenuhr is a steep southwest-facing slope of Devonian slate across the Mosel from the village of Wehlen. Its name comes from a sundial built among the vines in the 19th century so that vineyard workers could tell the time. The name was officially registered in 1913 and the site was later enlarged to about 47 hectares.
