Tavel is an appellation for rosé wine only, made in the single commune of Tavel just north of Avignon on the right bank of the Rhône. It became one of the first AOCs in 1936. Its deep-coloured rosé is said to have been a favourite of Louis XIV and Ernest Hemingway.
