Côte-Rôtie's terraced vineyards climb steep slopes facing the Rhône just south of Vienne, in Saint-Cyr-sur-le-Rhône, Ampuis and Tupin-et-Semons. The red may include up to 20% Viognier, which must be fermented together with the Syrah. The AOC was created in 1940.
