Saumur-Champigny is a red-only appellation of Cabernet Franc grown on the chalky tuffeau plateau east of Saumur, around villages such as Champigny, Varrains and Dampierre-sur-Loire. It became an AOC in 1957. Every summer the Grandes Tablées du Saumur-Champigny lay out more than a kilometre of tables in Saumur.
