Jurançon is made on steep Pyrenean foothills south-west of Pau, with Monein as its largest wine commune. It makes sweet wines from late-harvested Petit and Gros Manseng, as well as a dry Jurançon Sec. Legend says the future King Henri IV had his lips rubbed with garlic and a drop of Jurançon at his baptism in 1553.
