Cahors is a red wine of at least 70% Malbec, known locally as Côt or Auxerrois, from about 4,200 hectares in the Lot valley. Most vineyards lie west of the town of Cahors in villages such as Parnac, Luzech and Puy-l'Évêque. Long famous in England as the "black wine", it became an AOC in 1971.
