Madiran is a deeply coloured, tannic red based on Tannat, grown on about 1,300 hectares across the Gers, Hautes-Pyrénées and Pyrénées-Atlantiques. The appellation was created in 1948. Micro-oxygenation, now used in cellars around the world, was developed here in the early 1990s to soften Tannat.
