Penfolds was founded at Magill, now a suburb of Adelaide, by Dr Christopher Rawson Penfold in 1844. Winemaker Max Schubert made the first experimental Grange Hermitage there in 1951, after a trip to Bordeaux. Grange is a Shiraz blended from several South Australian vineyards.
