Ruster Ausbruch is a noble sweet wine from botrytised, shrivelled grapes, made only in Rust on the western shore of Lake Neusiedl. Rust's growers were allowed to brand their barrel corks with an R from 1524, and the wealthy wine town became a free royal city in 1681. The lake regulates heat and humidity, so noble rot appears almost every year.
