Cistercian monks of Cîteaux assembled the vineyard from 1109 onward and had walled it in by 1336. It stayed a single estate until 1889 and now has more than 80 owners. Its château, built in 1551, has been the seat of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin since 1945.
