Lacryma Christi is the best-known wine of the Vesuvio DOC, created in 1983 on the volcanic slopes of Mount Vesuvius near Naples. The reds are based on Piedirosso and the whites on Coda di Volpe, and the name comes from a legend that Christ wept over the Gulf of Naples.
